Cypress announces new, ultra-low-power, 802.11ac-friendly™ Wi-Fi

Cypress's new CYW43012 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth combo is purpose built for IoT applications.The CYW43012 leverages 28nm ultra-low-power technology and enhanced low power modes to deliver

  • Up to 70% savings in receive current
  • Close to 25% savings in transmit current
  • Up to 80% savings in low power modes

CYW43012 is the industry's first 802.11ac-friendly™ product.The 802.11ac-friendly mode is completely interoperable with IEEE 802.11ac access points and enables IoT applications to avoid compromising on power consumption while exploiting key 802.11ac features like:

  • High efficiency 256-QAM for lower active time
  • Longer range and coverage with explicit beamforming

Cypress' WICED Wi-Fi + Bluetooth combos integrate IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN and Bluetooth in a single-chip solution to enable small-form-factor IoT designs.Combo solutions are available for both 1x1 SISO with up to 433 Mbps PHY data rates and 2x2 MIMO with up to 867 Mbps PHY data rates. These solutions can be coupled with external MCUs from popular vendors or Linux on applications processors to implement a complete Wi-Fi + Bluetooth system. Many of the WICED Wi-Fi + Bluetooth combos are supported on Cypress's WICED Wi-Fi Software Development Kit (SDK) that provides code examples, tools and development support. Cypress supports WICED Wi-Fi + Bluetooth customers through its global network of IoT partners using production-ready, fully-certified modules based on the WICED Wi-Fi + Bluetooth combo portfolio.
